What Not To Do When Selling FBA Amazon
So, in my attempt to make more money, in order to stay at home with our son, I began to look into opportunities to make extra money. One of the ways that I thought would be fun was selling FBA Amazon. It was, at first! Until, I realized how little I knew about selling on Amazon. As I began to skim through many of the articles, Youtube videos and other resources out there, about selling FBA Amazon, I began to be inspired. I had dreams of selling, at home, and making tons of money doing it. There were very helpful articles about how to sell on amazon, and then there were increasingly popular articles about how you could make a ton of money, but it really never told you how to do it. Here’s what I learned not to do.
Get Suckered Into Pipe Dreams
This one was super hard for me, because I wanted to make money for our family, so bad, that I lost sight of reality. You WILL NOT make a ton of money, unless you put a ton of effort into selling FBA Amazon. I guess I thought that, by watching all of those inspirational how-to videos, the money would just start pouring in.
Ignore The Fees
I did not pay attention to how much the fees were, and went out and spent what I thought, in my head, was profit. Only later, I was slapped with hundreds of dollars of fees, only to have nothing to show for all of the hard work I had done. The general rule is that, if the product is sells for $10 dollars or more, it may be worth sending it into Amazon for selling FBA Amazon.
Pay For A Seller Account As A Beginner Selling FBA Amazon
Initially, I started all of this because I had a ton of books lying around and I thought I could make a little money, but as they sold, I thought big and decided to go for the approximately $40 a month seller account fee. This was all fine and dandy, when I was selling books, but then I ran out of inventory and could not find a supplier for books, so the $40 fee wiped me out.
Throw All Of Your Inventory Into A Box Without Labels
This can be a fatal disaster, when trying to earn with Amazon. The labels that you can print, within your seller account, go on the individual product. The purpose of the labels is so Amazon knows exactly what goes out, when the order for your product comes in. If these labels are not on the individual product, the person packing the product to go out to the customer, might grab more than one item to send out.
Send In A Box Without Proper Packing
I have seen people throw everything in a box, without taking the proper measures to make sure the product doesn’t get ruined in transit. For example, they poly bag mailers on individual items, that are small, may keep the item from getting ruined. Poly Bag mailers are the best.
Ignore Inventory Numbers
It is not Amazon’s job to tell you when your inventory gets low, or when you might be missing items, that you sent in. Like anything in business, it is a good idea to keep an eye on inventory and make sure that your items get sold and don’t “disappear”. Things happen, and because Amazon is so big, things can get lost, so it is always a good plan to monitor your inventory.
Additionally, with anything, you will have to work, when selling FBA Amazon or any other side hustle. There are many people who have made it into a full-time income and are doing very well for themselves. Learn from my mistakes, and you will go a lot farther than I did!
