How My Mom Makes $5,000 per Month On eBay
How To Sell On eBay and Make Money
When my Mom said that she was making an income on eBay, I honestly could not believe it. But then she showed me the results that she had selling things she had picked up here and there from Goodwill’s and thrift stores. That was approximately 2 yrs ago, and now she is considered an eBay power seller and has 2000+ feedback, with sales that earn her over $5,000 a month. Here is how my mom makes $5,000 per month on eBay:
The Best Items Selling On eBay
This is where you would find a specific product to sell. For example, my mother found that particular types of clothing sold really well, so she started with that. She researched the other sellers that were selling that particular product and how much they sold. Because of her time devoted to researching, she was able to also see how they create their titles creating particular keywords and how the product was presented, visually, to the customer.
Find Places To Source Product
This is where it gets fun! She looked for her particular items at Goodwill’s and thrift stores, at first. But, eventually she found that she could purchase the items in bulk (or lots) and split them up. Because she presented them well, in her photography, she could take the lots that others deemed “unwanted” and make them pretty desirable for other customers.
Research Product Worth
While she was shopping for her niche product, she had a list of brand names that were very desirable to her customers, so she learned their worth. Over time, she had memorized what the product was worth. In clothing, she learned that larger sizes and very small sizes sold the best and for the most money, so if she saw an item that fit that category, she scooped it up without hesitation.
Don’t reinvent the wheel when it comes to this part, but remember that keywords are extremely important and that is how the customer finds you. When looking for what keywords to use, she looked up what sellers she wanted to compete with(in other words she wanted to sell more than them). She would notice that using descriptive words, helped sell her items better. For example, if the product was new, she would write “NEW RALPH LAUREN SOFT WHITE LACE GOWN XXL”. If the product was used, she would write “VTG RALPH LAUREN SOFT WHITE LACE GOWN XXL”. She would continue to experiment with keywords, rather than stick to one strategy. Whatever you do, don’t leave out descriptive words, while come up with a title
List Product On eBay
Another very important part of becoming a great seller, is to list your product in an attractive manner. I cannot tell you, as a shopper, how many times I have scrolled right past a perfectly good product because the photo was unappealing. When researching the ways that other sellers have presented their products, my mom noticed that most top rated eBay sellers have mannequins. In addition, she noticed that the product was presented on the mannequin in an appealing way, with clear photography. My mom places the item on a mannequin, in front of a solid background that does not take away from the product and has a neutral color. She also will use a clothes pin to cinch in the waist, so that extra fabric is not hanging down. This is so the customer can see what it will look like, when they try it on. She will also take pictures of any tags or labels the product might have, in addition to close ups of the details of the item. All of these photos get listed on eBay. Because of her detailed photos, she has very little returns or buyers remorse. In addition, to the pictures, she will take measurements of the product, and lists that in the description, as well.
Ship Product To Customer
Here comes the best part! This would mean you’ve made a sale! She orders products from the post office, to help her save money. The USPS offers flat shipping rate boxes to eBay sellers. Remember to do your research, because it is easy to spend too much on shipping, and that would eat into your profit. When my mom ships her products, she will often send them in a “poly bag” (you can purchase these on Amazon) for protection. Also, she will not pack anything in the box that looks unprofessional. I.E. Newspaper, Grocery Bags, Toilet Paper. She invested in craft paper or newsprint paper(before the cute little cartoons). Also, when placing the shipping label on the box, she makes sure to not block the bar code, as the post office is not able to scan it.
Is Selling On eBay Easy?
Yes, it really is that easy, if you have followed the outline that is listed above. So, in a nutshell, that is how my mom makes $5,000 per month on eBay! What are other ways you have money online? Have you tried selling on eBay?
